A Wounded Healer - A Story of One Woman’s Healing in Jesus Christ.  

Deborah Rodriguez MD, MA, OCDS

Sunday, March 29, 6:15-7:15 p.m. in the Marian Social Hall

Dr. Rodriguez will give her personal and professional perspective on trauma, healing, and forgiveness. Dr. Rodriguez is a general pediatrician who sees patients from birth to college, with specialty training in trauma informed care. She extends her practice to support adolescent and adult survivors of abuse, violence, and trauma. She has spoken at medical conferences, including the Catholic Medical Association, she is a consultant to survivor focused ministries, and she also facilitates peer support groups for survivors of abuse through the Maria Goretti Network.

Carol Loya, TRUCE Spa Business Owner and Founder of Escape to Peace

Sunday, February 9, 6:15-7:15 p.m. in the Marian Social Hall

Carol founded Escape to Peace™ in 2013 to bring awareness to the issue of human trafficking in King County, WA, after seeing children as young as three years old sold in the slums of Thailand. In her talk, Carol will discuss why and how teens are lured into sex trafficking. She will show the road to healing for survivors, and she will outline what they need from their community. Carol's sense of mission is rooted in her deep Catholic faith and her desire to bring the light of Christ into the lives of those who are trapped in the darkness of human trafficking. 

 

Artificial Intelligence and Catholic Algor-Ethics

What is our role as Catholics whilst technology makes hyperscale progress related to Artificial Intelligence (AI)?  How to ensure ethics are considered in the design and use of AI? How should we all solve today’s biggest challenges when our society embraces the inevitable technological trends? These are some of the cutting edge topics Jorge will be leading us into with a breathtaking dialogue.

Faith, Politics, and Culture 

Dr. Caleb Henry, Associate Professor of Political Science at Seattle Pacific University

Sunday, November 10th, 6:15-7:15 p.m. in the Marian Social Hall

How should Catholics view politics and culture? Catholic social teaching provides a framework for understanding how to live out our faith in an increasingly complicated world. We will discuss the possibilities within the market, state and civil society. Who knows? We might even discuss the complicated nature of American political culture.
