Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)

Children’s Liturgy of the Word   (CLOW)

These special gatherings are intended to form children in the liturgical language of the Church, to nourish and guide their spiritual growth, and to immerse them in the WORD in ways that are understandable to them.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a vital ministry that currently serves school age children during our weekly 9:00am Sunday Mass and twice a month at our 5pm Sunday Mass. This ministry is “directed to the child’s active, conscious and authentic participation” [Directory for Masses with Children, 1973, n.12] in the Liturgy of the Word, by providing readings adapted to a child’s level from the Lectionary for Masses with Children, and an explanation of these readings in words that appeal to the children and with activities that bring the readings to life. The children are invited forward to the front of the Church, after the opening prayer and greeting, to be led from the church, to the Daily Chapel where they will have an opportunity to break open the same readings we hear at Mass that day.  The children then rejoin their families after the prayers of the faithful.  No registration is necessary. All children are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Volunteers are always needed for this essential ministry!

No special skills are needed, just a desire to inspire children with the Words of God. We would like to have a minimum of 3 leaders for every session. Please consider volunteering to be part of our CLOW team. Training and ongoing support is provided! The commitment is simple, just one Sunday Mass a month or less often depending on availability. (15-20 minutes during Mass). The spiritual rewards are huge. This is a great opportunity for adults and middle school/high school youth to help these eager youngsters learn the Word of the Lord.
